South Boston Fire - EMS
Search and Rescue Team

The Search and Rescue (SAR) Team of the South Boston Volunteer Fire Company was formed in 2001 when several members completed their initial training. Each member must complete a 48 hour weekend seminar and be trained in a wide variety of techniques to include map reading and compass skills along with variety of search procedures. This training places great emphasis on safety and teamwork while using specific equipment to assist in locating lost persons, providing immediate emergency care if required and safely removing victims to safe areas. The team responds prepared for a variety of conditions to include overnight stays if necessary. The SAR team's first call to action was for a person who had been missing for several hours. Within 45 minutes of the initial call, the victim was found and safely returned home to his family. The team since has assisted local police and sheriff's deputies on several searches. The team would like to say a special thanks to Charles Anderson Lawn Care who donated their uniforms.
