The South Boston Fire Prevention Committee is a committee designed to properly teach fire safety to the citizens of Halifax County. This committee consists of eight members all in good standing within the community and the fellow fire company. Throughout the year, the committee travels to different schools in the county to teach fire safety to young children between the ages of five and ten. They are equipped with a fully furnished safety trailer from Scotty purchased by the fire company. This allows them to provide hands on learning experience. A couple of things that the children learn about are smoke detectors, the stop drop and roll program, and how to properly exit a home that has been filled with smoke from a fire. During the year 2005, the committee taught over one thousand children fire safety.
